José Luis García Fierro. Doctor Honoris Causa
On October 3, 2017, the Professor José Luis García Fierro, from the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleum Chemistry of the Spanish National Research Council, has been awarded the Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos del Perú in recognition of his extraordinary scientific productivity in the area of catalysis. Its lines of activity include natural gas conversion, petrochemicals, environmental catalysis, clean production technologies and materials chemistry. He is the author and co-author of more than 1100 scientific publications in highly relevant specialized journals in the areas of catalysis, materials science, chemistry, solid state chemistry, engineering and surface chemistry. He is the inventor of 30 patents, has supervised 33 PhD Theses focused on catalytic problems related to chemical, energy and environmental technologies. He has edited 8 books and has been a plenary speaker at numerous congresses, seminars and scientific meetings in national and international organizations and companies.
He previously received the "Miguel Catalán" Research Award from the Community of Madrid (2008), the Senior Award from the Ibero-American Federation of Catalysis Societies (2009), and was distinguished with Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of Patras (2009) and Concepción, Chile (2014).
