JESÚS ALBERTO PAJARES SOMOANO [D.E.P.]

  • Secretary

It is with immense regret that we have been Spanish Society of Catalysis we echo the death yesterday, February 18, 2023, of one of our pioneers in the predecessor of SECAT, GEC Specialized Catalysis Group of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry RSEQ, Jesús Alberto Pajares Somoano ("Chuso"), Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and former director of the INCAR Coal Institute in Asturias.

Many of the not-so-young SECAT, learned with him the most basic aspects of Catalysis in his laboratories at the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleochemistry ICP, in the building of the Rocasolano Institute, prior to his transfer to the university campus of Cantoblanco. He has always promoted collaborations between researchers from the ICP-CSIC and Spanish universities, and between both institutions and ministerial cooperation programs with American universities.

He always considered the Spanish catalytic community as his big family. His professional value, his decisive character and his immense personal charisma made him admired and loved by all of us who have felt part of such an extended family.

From this his scientific family, our deepest condolences to his wife Cali and his children Claudia, Pelayo and Alberto, whom many of us knew given the open personal character of Chuso, as we familiarly called him.

Now you are resting in peace.

Jesús Alberto Pajares Somoano
