Yesterday, August 2, 2015, our colleague Antonio Cortés Arroyo passed away in Madrid. President of the Spanish Society of Catalysis between 2001 and 2007.

We would like to convey our deepest condolences to his family and to the entire catalytic community and to dedicate a memory to his memory.

Born on September 22, 1937 in Almeria, he carried out his Doctoral Thesis with a Scholarship from the March Foundation in the Catalysis Section of the Institute of Physical Chemistry "Rocasolano", since 1975 Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry, of the CSIC, under the direction of Professor Juan Francisco García de la Banda, which was presented at the University of Madrid in March 1966. with the title Catalytic cracking of the p-cymene. He made a post-octoral stay between 1966 and 1967 at the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) in the laboratory of Professor Ch. Kemball, working in H-D isotopic exchange in hydrocarbons. In May 1968 he began working in the Research and Development Department of the M.V. Kellogg Co. in New Market (NJ, USA), where he remained until October 1970 working on catalytic processes. On that date he rejoined the ICP as a Scientific Collaborator, in 1971 he was a Scientific Researcher and his first Doctoral Thesis of Xosé Luis Seoane Gómez entitled Dehydrogenating catalytic oxidation of ethyl-benzene to styrene, July 1972. In 1988 he is Research Professor at the CSIC and has been Director of the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (ICP), Director of the National Coal Institute (INCAR), Director of the Study Office of the Presidency of the CSIC and Secretary of EFCATS and President of the Spanish Society of Catalysis (SECAT) from 2001 to 2007.
