The University of Salamanca has invested Avelino Corma as the new Doctor Honoris Causa on July 2, during the ceremony held in the Auditorium of the University, under the presidency of the Rector Ricardo Rivero. Corma was accompanied by his godfather, Vicente Sánchez Escribano, the Rector of the Political University of Vàlencia, José E. Capilla and the researcher Mariano Barbacid, among other personalities. The ceremony was held in Latin.
During the ceremony, Sánchez Escribano highlighted that Corma is the most cited Spanish scientist in the world, ranked twenty-eighth globally and number 1 in the world in organic chemistry. A researcher since 1990 at the Institute of Chemical Technology, he is the author of more than 200 patents and more than 1,400 articles in international journals.
Avelino Corma, who holds an Honorary Doctorate from 15 other universities, not only in Spain, has received the attributes that recognize him as a new Doctor from the University of Salamanca (badge, cap, ring and book) and has taken the floor to defend the need to "form multi- and interdisciplinary teams capable of solving the great problems of humanity. In addition, he addressed young people, stating: "We must be teachers who transmit knowledge and principles so that our young people achieve a comprehensive education as free human beings aware of their social responsibility".
