Programme of activities for the Promotion of Catalysis 2020

The Governing Board of the Spanish Society of Catalysis, held on October 18, 2019, launches the Programme of Activities for the Promotion of Catalysis. 2020 Call for Proposals. The aim of the Programme is to finance catalysis work within SECAT groups.

1.- Thesis Awards 2019

The PRIZE for the Doctoral Thesis that a Specialized Commission considers more relevant than those presented by SECAT members, with a seniority of more than one year, during the year 2019 in any Spanish University, in the field of Catalysis.

Terms and conditions of the call

Candidates: All Doctoral Theses defended between January 1 and December 31, 2019 by SECAT student-members on the date of presentation of the Thesis will be eligible for the awards.

Commission: The Prize Committee will be made up of 3 scientists from the field of Catalysis, members of SECAT, elected by the Governing Board, with no direct link to the candidates, with SECAT acting as Secretary of the Prize (which will not have a vote in the decision). The composition of the panel shall be public.

Presentation: In order to be eligible for the Award, it must be sent to the SECAT Secretariat using the appropriate formtogether with a digital copy of the Doctoral Thesis, the accreditation of the qualification obtained and the date of defence and a brief CV, before 12 January 2020 in pdf format.

Prize: The prize will consist of the invitation to present the most relevant work of the Thesis within the framework of SECAT'21, with the Society covering the costs of registration and accommodation to the Congress. Likewise, during the Congress, a Diploma will be awarded to the winner. The result will be communicated through the SECAT website.
The composition of the Board that evaluates the Thesis Award will be made public during the SECAT'21 Congress.


2.- Organization of Conferences, Courses and Activities for the Promotion of Catalysis

From December 1, 2019 there is a period for the submission of applications to organize Conferences for the Dissemination of Catalysis, Advanced Courses and other activities organized by SECAT partners with the main purpose of publicizing and disseminating Catalysis.

Terms and conditions of the call

Requests: SECAT members who wish to do so with more than one year's seniority in SECAT may apply for partial funding, providing the following documentation:

Days: Corresponding formIndicating:

  1. Programme of Activities, detailing the events that will take place: seminars, exhibitions, conferences, etc.
  2. Detailed budget of the Conference, including the aid requested from SECAT and the aid that will be requested from other public and/or private organizations.
  3. Grant Program for SECAT members, dissemination and outreach.

Advanced Courses: Corresponding formDetailing:

  1. Course program, including activities that can be carried out in parallel: internships, seminars, exhibitions, conferences, etc.
  2. Detailed budget of the Course, including the aid that is requested from SECAT and the aid that will be requested from other public and/or private organizations.
  3. Estimated number of students, detailing the approximate percentage of SECAT student members.
  4. Scope of activities: who they are aimed at, means of dissemination, etc.

Organization of other activities for the promotion of Catalysis not included in the previous points, organized by SECAT partners.

Application Deadline: The digitized documentation must be sent to the SECAT Secretariat using the Corresponding form, making the request at least one month prior to the event.

Evaluation and Resolution: The SECAT Governing Board will evaluate the applications received and decide on funding, up to a maximum of 60% of the budget submitted; never exceeding the amount of €1,000. The Board's decision will be announced as soon as possible.

Priority will be given to those activities that have not been previously funded by the Programme.


3.- Mobility Program

SECAT aims to promote the Student Mobility between laboratories of the Groups belonging to SECAT, granting grants to partially finance visits for research not eligible for funding by other programmes.

Terms and conditions of the call

Candidates: Students and Researchers in training, not PhDs, who meet the following requirements will be eligible for these grants:

  1. Be a member of SECAT for at least one year.
  2. The scientist responsible for his/her work must be a member of SECAT.
  3. The scientist in charge of the team in which the visit will be carried out must be a member of SECAT.
  4. The stay must be of a minimum duration of one week and take place throughout the year 2020.

Help: SECAT will evaluate each application and grant a Travel Grant of up to €300 for the first week and up to €150 per additional week; with a maximum of €750 per applicant per year; upon presentation of the justification of the stay, which must contain a brief summary of the work carried out and the certification of the scientist responsible for the team where the stay has been carried out.

Documentation: To apply for the grant, the following documents must be submitted:

  1. Corresponding form, with a brief description of the work to be carried out at the Receiving Centre, with the Approval of the Director of the work at the Sending Centre.
  2. Letter of Acceptance from the Director of the work at the Receiving Center.

Submission of applications: The application and other documentation must be sent to the SECAT Secretariat well in advance of the date on which the stay is to be carried out, to ensure that the application can be evaluated by the Governing Board in a reasonable time.

Once the stay is over, in order to receive the aid, the report of the activity carried out must be sent to the SECAT Secretariat with the approval of the person in charge of the receiving group, as well as the receipts of the trip.


4.- SECAT-Introduction to Catalysis Research Grants INTRO-2020 GRANTS

As part of the Programme of Activities for the Promotion of Catalysis, SECAT calls for a total of 10 INTRODUCTORY AIDS TO RESEARCH IN THE AREA OF CATALYSIS.

Purpose of the call

The purpose of this call is to award 10 Grants Introduction to Catalysis Research for students who are in their last year of Bachelor's, Bachelor's or Engineering degrees. The Grants are awarded on a competitive basis and in accordance with the principles of objectivity and publicity. The work plan of these Grants will be developed in Research Centres or University Departments, under the direction of researchers from their staff who are members of the Spanish Society of Catalysis with a minimum of three years' seniority.

Application Deadline

Applications can be submitted from January 1 until January 1. March 2, 2020, as of the publication of this call on the SECAT website.

Beneficiaries

University students who have passed at least 70% of all the total credits required to obtain the degree and who are enrolled during the 2019/2020 academic year in a Spanish Faculty or Higher Technical University School in a total number of credits sufficient to complete the total number of credits required to obtain the degree may apply for the Grants subject to this call. with the exception of the credits corresponding to the Final Degree Project.

Period and conditions of enjoyment

The Grants will have a duration of THREE MONTHS and will be enjoyed between the months of June and October 2020, with a full-time dedication. These grants are incompatible with the enjoyment of other research grants with similar characteristics.

Financial endowment

  1. The total amount of each Grant will be 700 € gross.
  2. The aid, once granted, will be effective after the end of the activity, provided that it has been adequately justified, as indicated in this call in point d) of the beneficiary's obligations section.
  3. The Centre where the work plan is to be carried out will ensure that the student is covered for any type of work-related accident during the period of enjoyment of the Grant.

The Aid will not be considered as salary or remuneration.

Formalization of applications

Applicants must submit a correctly completed form of Application Form available on the SECAT website with the approval of the Director of the work.
No more than one application per candidate and Director-Responsible for the Research-Training Grant will be accepted.
The completed application form with the signatures of the applicant and the Research Director must be sent through the application together with the following documents scanned in a single pdf file with a maximum size of 4 MB:

  1. Copy of the Proof of identity (DNI or similar)
  2. Personal Academic Certification which must include all the subjects and credits passed from the beginning of university studies until the date of the application and the average grade obtained, referring to the total number of credits or subjects passed. Likewise, the subjects and the total number of credits in which the applicant is enrolled during the 2019/2020 academic year and the total number of credits necessary to obtain the degree of the university degree taken by the applicant must be listed.
  3. Resume of the applicant.
  4. Proposed work plan with the approval of the Director of Labor.

All documents must be attached (with a copy to the Director of the GRANT) in a SINGLE FILE and in PDF FORMAT, no other format will be accepted.
Applications that are not submitted on form will be automatically excluded from the process.

Selection of candidates

The selection of candidates will be made by an ad hoc committee proposed by the Board and ratified by the President of SECAT. The committee will draw up a proposal for the award of Aid and a complementary list of alternates in order of priority in the event of resignation or non-incorporation of the beneficiaries.
The following criteria will be taken into account for the evaluation of the applications:

  1. Academic record, Resume and Candidate's motivation letter (up to 8 points).
  2. Work plan proposed by the Director of Aid and adaptation of the topic to the area of Catalysis (up to 2 points).

Obligations of beneficiaries

The acceptance of the Aid by the beneficiary implies the acceptance of the conditions set out in this call. Beneficiaries will be required to:

  1. Join the centre indicated for the benefit of the aid on the date indicated in the terms and conditions of the call.
  2. Collaborate with the researcher assigned as Director of Research, according to the research plan proposed by the latter, take advantage of the training program and the calendar of activities derived from the above and adjust to the rules of organization and operation of the center where the work plan is to be carried out.
  3. To carry out their work in the centre for which the Aid has been granted during the period of duration of the Grant, with the authorisation of the Presidency of SECAT, which will decide in agreement with the Management of the corresponding centres, for any change of centre or Director, being necessary.
  4. Submit prior to October 31, 2020 A descriptive report of the work carried out with a maximum length of 1000 words. The report must include the VºBº of the Director of Research. The digitized report must be sent by e-mail to the SECAT Secretariat. secretaria@secat.es together with the IBAN of the account where the financial aid will be paid.
  5. Record in any publication that is a consequence of the activity carried out during the enjoyment of the Grant, their status as a beneficiary of the SECAT Grant Program for Introduction to Research in Catalysis.

Noncompliance

Failure to comply with the necessary requirements or obligations assumed as a result of the grant of the aid may lead to the termination of the right to benefit from it or to the modification of the decision granting it and the reimbursement of the amounts received.

Notification and publication

The decision to grant the concession will be notified through publication on the SECAT website.


5.- SECAT grants for the Master's Thesis in Catalysis

As part of the Programme of Activities for the Promotion of Catalysis, SECAT calls for a total of 10 GRANTS for the realization of MASTER'S THESIS IN CATALYSIS.

Purpose of the call

The purpose of this call is to award 10 Grants for students who are studying a Master's Degree. The Grants are awarded on a competitive basis and in accordance with the principles of objectivity and publicity. The Master's Thesis will be developed in the field of Catalysis in Research Centres or University Departments, under the direction of researchers from its staff who are members of the Spanish Society of Catalysis with a minimum of three years' seniority.

Application Deadline

Applications can be submitted from January 1 until January 1. March 2, 2019, as of the publication of this call on the SECAT website.

Beneficiaries

University students who are enrolled during the 2019/2020 academic year in a Master's Degree at a Spanish university and who have an average in the Bachelor's degree equal to or greater than 6.5 may apply for the Grants that are the subject of this call

Financial endowment

  1. The total amount of each Grant will be €1,300 gross.
  2. The aid, once granted, will become effective after the end of the activity, provided that it has been adequately justified, as indicated in this call in point b) of the beneficiary's obligations section.
    The aid will not be considered as salary or remuneration, but as aid for training.

Formalization of applications

Applicants must submit the correctly completed form Application Form available on the SECAT website with the approval of the Director of the work.
No more than one application per candidate and Director-Responsible for the Research-Training Grant will be accepted.

  5. Proposed work plan with the approval of the Director of Labor.

Conditions of enjoyment
These grants are not compatible with the enjoyment of other grants, contracts or research grants.

Submit before December 20, 2020, i) an electronic copy of the Master's Thesis, ii) a document accrediting the defense and qualification and iii) a descriptive report of the work carried out with a maximum length of 500 words. The report must include the VºBº of the Director of Research. The digitized report along with the rest of the documentation must be sent by e-mail to the SECAT Secretariat. secretaria@secat.es.
  3. Record in any publication that is a consequence of the activity carried out during the enjoyment of the grant, their status as a beneficiary of the SECAT Aid Program for the completion of Master's Thesis in Catalysis.
